Feeding America – A Social Program For Needy Individuals (Repost)

There is an inspiring saying that you should not give people fish to eat, but encourage them to learn the skills of fishing. Meanwhile, people believe that a helping hand should be extended to the ones who are in deep need and who do not have any other solution. This means that they will receive the resources needed for having a good life, but also they will be helped to manage their own income resources. Extending a helping hand is the right thing to do for people and they should be able to deal with things on their own as much as possible.

Mercy Church San Luis Obispo understood this need of people and this is why it has created a feeding program based on a food bank. In this way, the staff and the members of the church want to extend a helping hand to the ones in need. Every month on the second Tuesday the food bank will be opened to the ones who need it. Feeding America can be a really challenging thing and people need to understand that it is good for them to learn to enjoy their life and to learn to give to others. The resources are in general donated by the members of the church and it is an act of self-sacrifice.

Actually being involved in such a large operation is a challenging and daunting task. There are many resources to coordinate and it can be difficult to have people donate from their own goods. In this way, the people will be helped to either get a job or to be integrated in a community which responds to their needs. Many of them require a real change in life and this will mean a lot for them. It is real that feeding America means feeding the soul, not only the body. This is a commitment that the church is engaged in and this is the primary goal expressed by the entire community.
